Responding to a Job Post

Online ads help us find all kinds of different goods and services easily and quickly. It is important to remember that when you are responding to a job posting, you have never met the person behind the ad before. Use caution.

1. Never wire money, or send a check, for a job opportunity or person you have never interviewed with. They may claim you need to send money so they can set up your background check. An interview or some sort of public meeting always usually occurs beforehand.

2. Do not give out personal information about yourself, such as your social security, without verifying that a job posting is legitimate.

3. Talk to people on the phone before giving them information, like your address, and trust your instincts.

4. If invited to interview, always meet in a public place, or place of business.
